What is the difference between ultrasound and dye penetrant tests for metal? - micro metal core wheel for sale
I understand that both techniques can be used to detect the failure (surface micro-) cracks in the metal, as in nuts, or any other type of rotating machinery. Which method is a) more sensitive to pick up microscopic cracks to buy 2) initially to less expensive devices, and perform regularly, and 3) easier to implement (the people in the train, etc.)
Thank you.

* Test DP is cheaper, easier to train people, but in the most sensitive to the capture of microscopic cracks is worrying, ultrasound is more reliable.
* The detection of ultrasound requires an investment.

Ultrasonic (UT) uses the energy of the high-frequency sound on the conduct of tests and measurements to make. Ultrasonic testing can be used for error detection and evaluation, measurement, material characterization are used, and much more.
"A typical ultrasound system consists of several functional units, such as the transmitter / receiver, sensor and display devices. A transceiver is an electronic device that can produce high voltage pulses. Guided by the transmitter, the sensor generates energy during high-frequency ultrasound. The sound energy is introduced and propagates through the materials in the form of waves. If there is a discontinuity (such as a crack) is on the path of the wave energy from the surface of the defect against. The reflected wave signal is an element convertedctrical signal from the transducer and displayed on a screen. Introduced in the applet below, the intensity of the reflected signal as a function of time for the signal generator, as it is an echo. The duration of the signal can be directly related to the removal of the signaling pathway linked. Signal, information about the position of the mirror can be the size, orientation and other characteristics often won.

The main difference between ultrasonic and dye penetration is that tests of sweating can be identified from the surface, while the ultrasound is to defects in the metal detection through its thickness. Can in fact do not recognize the failure of a few millimeters in ultrasound from the surface.
